Djerba municipal theater renovated and ready to host the Francophonie summit

The Ministers and heads of delegations of the full member states and governments of the Ministerial Conference of the Francophonie (CMF) agreed on Thursday, October 28, 2021, after consultation and under the chairmanship of Mr. Othman Jarandi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, the postponement of the Francophonie Summit to November 19 and 20, 2022.

What is the Francophonie Summit?

The Francophonie summit is a meeting between the heads of state and government of the member countries of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) which has been held every two years since 1986. At these summits, participants discuss cooperation between member countries, economic issues and international political challenges. Several topics are usually discussed, including human rights, access to education and respect for democracy. The OIF has 88 states and governments: 54 members, 7 associate members and 27 observers.

A long awaited event in Tunisia:

This postponement after the pandemic will allow Tunisia to organise this major event in the best possible conditions. Tunisia will have much to gain by promoting tourism through the beauty of the island of dreams that is Djerba, by repositioning itself in world diplomacy after the events of political instability that the country has experienced in recent years and by building solid diplomatic relations within the framework of the definition of the orientations of the Francophonie. These relations could give Tunisia the opportunity to present itself as a favourable ground for international investments which will have an immediate impact on the country’s economy, notably on unemployment and purchasing power.

The municipal theatre of Djerba is now more than ever ready to host a meeting of such magnitude.
